Hash-vocabulary and Hash-hieroglyphics The Hash is worldwide vertreten and the "main language" is english. Therefore the expressions used are also in english and anybody in the whole world can take part in a hash, without necessarily knowing the national language.
ON-ON is the official Hash-salute and is also called out, when an "On-Trail" mark has been sighted.
"ON TRAIL" means, you are on the right track. The "Hares" lay the trail, just as in the game of "Hounds and Hares".
A "Down Down" is the expression for the beer, that has to be downed inside the circle - as punishment for wrong-doings or offences, of which there are quite a few in the Hash - some of them are listed at the bottom of the page.
Most of the marks are similar internationally. Whoever wishes to know more about the international Hash-rules, should take look at some of the international Hash pages. Links to a few of them can be found under"Links". Every Hash has its own customs in adapting the rules. The most commonly used signs of the H7-Hash, are displayed and exlplained below:

 MEETING POINT In order to find the meeting point, the way there is marked from the nearest public transport stop with this sign. |
 SING STOP At a sing stop the whole groups gathers together to sing (for lack of a better word) songs, the Song Master, or Song Mistress chooses (see also "SONGS" |
 CHECK A "Check" means, that there are one or more false trails marked from this point. The mission is to find the right trail, which again can be identified by further signs |
 CHECK 1 Whoever is searching for the right trail after a "Check", for one has to find such a mark . It CAN be the first step in the right direction - but is not necessarily so... |
 LADYS CHECK Another "Check" - yet one that demands a harriet to find the right trail. |
 CHECK 2 ..the 2nd step in the hopefully right direction, or another step further into XXX... |
 CHECK Last 3 The last (in this case) 3 hashers, to arrive at this check, must search for the right track |
 CHECK 3 Finally ON-ON, der right trail...and on you go |
 FALSE TRAIL Wo diese Markierung zu finden ist, heißt es: retour, nicht weiter, falsche Fährte. Zudem ist es nicht erlaubt, über die horizontale Linie zu treten - sonz gibz 'n DownDown |
 PLAY STOP Dieser stop findet sich auf Spielplatz oder in der Nähe eines solchen. Hier wird der Lauf unterbochen, um sich dort auszutoben oder bestimmte Aufgaben zu erfüllen. |
 CHECK BACK Whoever is looking for the right track after a "Check", has proof here that he is wrong - at least (s)he knows more where NOT to go... |
 VIEW STOP A View Stop interrupts the Hash and directs the attention of the Hash to the view. |
 REGROUP This mark means, that everybody has to gather here before the whole group moves on. |
 BEER NEAR Beer isn't far off |
 CHECK OPEN If, after a check, the correct trail has been made out, the check can be "opened up" for late commers and slow coaches, to point to the right direction |
 BEER STOP HALT !!! - drink the beer depostied here !!! |
 TURN AROUND This arrow tells the complete group of hashers to circle that particular object, the mark refers to. |
 DRINK STOP HALT !!! - stop and drink Schnaps!!! |
 ON IN ON-IN means, the trail enters something: a park, a path, an entrance, a building, an underground station....whereever |
 ON HOME marks the end das of the run and the spot where the circle is held, .. and where there is more beer! |
